Looking over the incredible and ancient landscape of Inverpolly in Assynt just before the sun rose on a frosty Autumn morning after a freezing, clear night. Cul Mòr, Suilven and Canisp are the mountains beyond Cam Loch. The transition in the terrain is remarkable and its age is equally so. Sitting on a bed of three billion year-old Lewisian gneiss peppered with cnocs and lochans, the billion year old Torridonian Sandstone mountains were formed by errosion of the surrounding rock during an episode of glaciation. To be in such a remarkable location during in such beautiful conditions felt surreal.
